Keyboard Error 304

Now whenever I start the system when Compaq logo comes there is an error is displayed as "304 keyboard or system unit error". I've tried like 3 keyboards all using serial port. Someone, told me that some Compaq machines have F12 as a BIOS setup key. I don't know if it makes any difference as far as the computer is concerned.
