Sounds nuts, but slap it softly a couple times in the palm of your hand. After removing the batteries and SD card and letting the camera sit overnight, I replaced the batteries and card in the morning. Does anyone know how to fix this? Googling it looks like the chances are slim but I'd be interested in any experience getting "lens error" fixed under waranty on canon P&S.Thanks!!!!! Try them, your exact SD780 lens error restart camera problem is right on the site for the SD780. I think that's surprising, considering this camera was $420 purchased new. I keep my cameras in a padded case until I'm ready to take a photo, and then return them to their padded case. Personally, I put this in the "we don't care" category. The outer plastic ring was only acting as a protection for the camera's 'insides' when it was fully extended in zoom position. I jiggled and pushed the lense housing and smacked the camera lightly on the tile floor and it now works!!!
